Updates for prospective students and applicants

In response to the COVID-19 situation, UIC Admissions is taking measures to protect the health and welfare of our campus community and guests. This page focuses on the impact on prospective students and applicants and will be continually updated. 

Office closure until further notice

The Office of Admissions is temporarily closed and staff will work remotely. We will not be able to receive in-person visits or phone calls. 

  • Graduate and undergraduate students and applicants may contact us by email if you have any questions or need assistance.
  • Undergraduate counselors are also available through live chat Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Application credentials submission

  • As of March 21, the Student Services Building is closed to the public. We recommend sending all items by electronic mail or using upload services where available. We do not have access to postal mail at this time, but will upon return to the office. 
  • If you are unable to secure electronic transcripts and have requested official documents to be sent to us by mail, you can upload unofficial copies of your transcripts to your application status portal. If you are offered admission, we will require official transcripts prior to enrollment.

Impacts on visits, on- and off-campus events

Based on the University of Illinois System recommendations, effective Friday, March 13, the events in the list below will be suspended.

  • In addition to on-campus events, UIC Admissions will not participate in off-campus events including school visits, college fairs and other non-essential travel. 
  • This suspension of activities is in place until further notice. Where possible, alternate programming is being planned. Check back here for details. 

Impacts on application processes

UIC Admissions is committed to increased flexiblity in our admisisons process to ease some of the disruption to our applicants' fall plans.  

  • Fall 2020 first-year applicants who have not yet applied can continue to use the petition form to request consideration for a late application. 
  • The Intent to Enroll deadline for Fall 2020 first-year applicants is extended to June 1. 
  • The application deadline for Fall 2020 transfer and readmission applicants is extended to May 1. Visit the UIC web application to apply.

What should I do if I’ve been admitted?

We are working hard to make sure all #UICBOUND students have opportunities to interact with campus. But we recognize that a reduction in on-campus events may impact your ability to participate in admitted student programming. We’ll work to provide alternate options. 

Undergraduate admitted students can and should continue to move through the next steps checklist at admitted.uic.edu.

How do I check my application status?

Due to reduced staffing, current applicants awaiting an admissions decision are encouraged to check the application status portal.

Can I still submit an application?

First-year applicants seeking a late application can continue to use the petition form

The deadline for Fall 2020 Transfer and Readmission applicants will be extended to May 1. Visit the UIC web application to apply.

How will the response impact graduate and professional applicants?

Due to reduced staffing, current applicants for graduate and professional programs are encouraged to monitor their application status online.  

Deadlines for application and document submission remain unchanged. 

If you are newly admitted or currently enrolled and have been instructed to submit official, sealed academic materials, we recommend sending all items by electronic mail or digital services. We are discouraging in-person submission at this time. Received items will be reflected in the application status portal. To prevent delays, we encourage early submission of materials.

I'm an admitted graduate student, how do I submit final transcripts?

At this time, we are encouraging applicants to request their final transcripts to be items mailed to their home address, leave them sealed, and then bring them to campus when the office reopens. In cases where the final and official documentation be sent electronically from the issuing institution, they can be emailed to applygrad@uic.edu for newly admitted graduate students.
